A) Corporate

i) Fellow
ii) Member
iii) Associate Member

Fellows:

i) Shall be elected by the Council of the Institute from among
Corporate Members.

A Fellow shall a person,

a. Who shall not be below 35 years of age
b. Who has been a member (MIAE) for over 5 years.
c. Who has held a Senior Managerial position for over 5 years.
d. Who in the option of the Council merits election to fellowship of the Institute.

OR

ii) It shall be open to the Councill to elect as fellows persons of high standing in the profession of Automotive Engineering field or person who have a significant contribution to the development of Automotive Engineering whose election to fellowship would uphold the prestige of Institute.

Member:
A Member shall be person:

i. Who is not below 30 years of age

AND

ii. Who has passed the part iii of the examination of the Institute of Automotive Engineers (Sri Lanka) OR has gained any other recognized qualifications acceptable to the Council

AND

iii. Who has had 5 years of experience in the discipline of Automotive Engineering that include a minimum of 3years of experience in a managerial capacity acceptable to the Council.

Associate Member:
An Associate Member shall be a person:

i) Who is not below 25 years of age

AND

ii) Who has passed the part III of examination of the Institute of Automotive Engineers (Sri Lanka) OR has gained any other recognized qualifications acceptable to the Council

AND

iii) Who has had 3 years of experience in the discipline of Automotive Engineering in a supervisory capacity or higher acceptable to the Council

B) Non-Corporate
i) Affiliate
ii) Student

Affiliate:
An Affiliate shall be a person,

i) Who is not bellow 22 years of age

AND

ii) Who has passed the part III of the examination of the Institute of Automotive Engineers (Sri Lanka) OR has gained any other recognized qualifications acceptable to the Council

Students:
A student member shall be a person,

i) who is not below 18 years of age

AND

ii) Who has passed the GCE (O/L)Examination

AND

Who is an apprentice or a person engaged in a recognized institution on workshop concerned with Automotive Engineering.
Mature Candidate Route:

(Member / Associate member categories of corporate membership)

The purpose of Mature Candidate Route is to provide a path to corporate Membership under exceptional stipulated under Member or Associate Member, yet have achieved a high standard of professional competence in the field of Automotive Engineering to merit recognition.
However, it is imperative that burden of proof of such high degree of professional competence, acceptable to the council, is upon the candidate.
The candidate will not be required to produce evidence of educational attainment.
The candidate shall,

i) Be not below 50 years of age at the date of application.
ii) Indicate the intended category of membership (ie, Member or Associate member), and will be considered of admittance only to that category.
iii) Submit a report of not less than 1500 words clearly indicating the degree of technical competence progressively achieved and the level of responsible experience progressively acquired in supervisory and managerial capacities.

The report will be assessed by the Council and if deuced satisfactory, the caudate will be required to appear for an interview to further establish the degree of technical competence and responsible experience.
